When I was pregnant with Baby Boo, newborn photography was not something I gave much thought to. Then, after she was born and I realised how impossible it is to get a decent shot of a newborn using a camera phone, I thought twice. Unfortunately, I then discovered that if you don’t book when you’re pregnant, you’re out of luck because those pictures – the adorable ones of infants curled up in baskets, nests and on top of fluffy towels – can only be done in the first couple of weeks. And, if you haven’t booked in advance, you’re unlikely to get a spot in time. To make sure you don’t make the same mistake as me, I sat down with Pink Pepper Photography baby photographer Ancke Moolman to get the lowdown on why it’s such a top idea to book in for a newborn photoshoot.
I’ve always been a huge fan of Stokke, from their iconic Tripp Trapp chair to their beautiful Xplory stroller, their enduring and practical pieces are designed to stand the test of time. And none more so than the gorgeous new range, Stokke Home. Pegged as ‘the small nursery with big possibilities’, the Stokke Home concept centers around modularity. The idea is that each piece is adaptable and alters to suit your living space and the changing needs of your child. Basically, as your little one grows from a newborn into a toddler and from a toddler into a young child, the pieces grow with them.
A diaper bag is a diaper bag, right? Wrong. As any experienced mum will tell you, nappy changes away from home aren’t always a walk in the park and having a good diaper bag makes all the difference when you’re getting busy with a nappy and wipes in public. But like all things on Planet Baby, there’s an overwhelming choice on offer and when I first set out on the task of picking the perfect piece of arm candy it made my head spin. For that reason I put together this list of tips for choosing the perfect diaper bag. Continue reading “5 tips for choosing the perfect diaper bag”
Last week my daughter woke up with the sniffles. I’ve always considered myself a levelheaded and rational person, so naturally I burst into floods of tears and declared myself a failure as a parent for allowing my little one to succumb to the common cold… Continue reading “5 safe ways to treat a baby’s cold symptoms”
Like most first-time mum-to-bes, when I found out I was expecting I went through all the usual emotions of joy, fear, elation, fear, delight and well, fear again! It wasn’t that I was scared of becoming a parent, but as any first-time baby bandwagoners will understand, the idea of growing, delivering and then looking after a miniature human can seem a little daunting. As an avid bookworm my way of handling this trepidation has been to get my hands on a range of parenting books. From nitty-gritty texts about pregnancy, to birthing and breastfeeding titles, I’ve looked for the answers from an army of baby experts. Unfortunately the vast majority have either been scary, patronising or both, and none have made me feel more prepared for the arrival of my daughter in January.
So instead I decided to call on Dubai’s best-known parenting bloggers to quiz them about the baby bibles they swear by. Read on for their recommendations.
It’s not easy to choose the right baby carrier. When I found out I was expecting, one of the first things that sprang to mind was babywearing. In my head I saw myself strolling effortlessly with my newborn strapped against me, close enough to kiss and cuddle. A romantic notion indeed, but as it turns out, as well as being idyllic, there are also numerous benefits to ‘wearing’ your baby. Modern research shows that it’s a wonderful way to bond and that the physical and psychological benefits encourage children to feel secure and content.
No surprises then that when I started my baby shop-a-thon (about a week after that thin blue line came into my life) the first thing I decided to invest in was a carrier. However, the world of baby carriers is a complicated one. There seems to be a new one, well, born every minute, and the glut of options can make it difficult for an inexperienced babywearer to know which style or brand is the best buy.
