REVIEW: Mama’s Box

Hands up if you’ve ever felt overwhelmed by the amount of pregnancy and baby products on the market? You’re not alone. As any newbie parent will testify, yours truly included, shopping for that new phase in your life can be a daunting task. From knowing which stretch mark creams really deliver on their promise of flawless skin, to picking the perfect baby bottles for your newborn, it can be a bit of a nightmare figuring out what is needed and what type is best. Fortunately, that’s where Mama’s Box comes in.

If you’re yet to hear of Mama’s Box, allow me to elaborate. Basically, it’s a UAE-wide monthly subscription service, which delivers boxes filled with useful products for mum and baby, from the beginning of pregnancy through to age one. The pregnancy boxes hold handy treats for mum-to-bes, such as organic lip balm and bra extenders – essentially all the stuff you need as a first-time mum, but don’t know about – while the baby boxes are tailored to the age and sex of your little one.

The way it works it that you can order one-, three- or six-month subscriptions and the idea is that each month you receive a hamper containing four to five unique, practical and beautiful gifts for your child. The boxes are priced at Dhs250 each, but those taking out a six-month-subscription can enjoy the service for as little as Dhs220 per month.

Before I was pregnant I was a big fan of beauty boxes and liked the idea of a baby version, so when my baby girl was just two weeks old I decided to give it a try. From start to finish everything was faultless. Mama’s Box got in touch to ask me some questions about my little one, such as name, gender and date of birth and from there they created a stunning selection of goodies which were delivered a couple of days later by courier.

My Mama’s Box

So, what was inside? Well, as mentioned, each pack is unique and tailor-made for you and your baby. However, I decided to opt for the Trimester Box, which is a one-off pack of six to eight goodies priced at Dhs495. It differs slightly from the original concept in that the box contains items that will be useful longer term, rather than straightaway. My box contained a Baby Einstein Mama and Me board book; two beautiful memory boxes for my baby’s first curl and first tooth; super cute Sticky Bellies monthly milestone stickers; some gorgeously scented Hot Rose Soap (that one was for moi!); a Disney water teether; a teething necklace; Annabel Karmel’s recipe book for weaning and a baby bib for when solids are part of my daughter’s daily diet.

As each selection is carefully chosen with you and your baby in mind, the items are a complete surprise. However, you can rest assured you won’t receive junk as all the items available, some produced by big companies like Palmer’s and others created by local mumpreneurs, such as Babylu, are handpicked by a team of expert mums, who have tested them out to make sure that they are the best products on the market.

Overall I was extremely impressed with Mama’s Box and am definitely considering ordering a monthly subscription. If you’re interested in trying Mama’s Box yourself visit for more details.
