Christmas is knocking at the door, along with family visitors, fattening festive food and a frenzied round of seasonal celebrations, all of which have the potential to throw your healthy lifestyle into chaos. But it is possible to get through silly season without jumping up a dress size and seeing your health suffer. One of the best – and worst – things about pregnancy is all the random food cravings. During my first few months nausea really knocked it out of me and the only way to combat the problem was to give in to all my cravings, which included everything from cheese-stuffed pretzels to spicy Cheetos and chocolate ice cream. While I enjoyed this period of excess, I was somewhat relieved by month five when my normal, healthier, appetite returned. After all, while cravings are completely natural, you have to set reasonable limits because the more weight you gain in these nine months, the harder it will be to stabilise it later.
