One of the best – and worst – things about pregnancy is all the random food cravings. During my first few months nausea really knocked it out of me and the only way to combat the problem was to give in to all my cravings, which included everything from cheese-stuffed pretzels to spicy Cheetos and chocolate ice cream. While I enjoyed this period of excess, I was somewhat relieved by month five when my normal, healthier, appetite returned. After all, while cravings are completely natural, you have to set reasonable limits because the more weight you gain in these nine months, the harder it will be to stabilise it later. Plus, there is some evidence to suggest that babies discover flavours in the womb, and if you don’t want a little one with a taste for fried buffalo wings in brown sauce, it’s wise to reign it in. Fruits of the forest smoothie
Since reaching my third trimester my appetite has gone into overdrive. After a full nights sleep I’m ravenous in the mornings, which has lead to a breakfast obsession. However, it’s got to be delicious, filling and ready in less than five minutes, otherwise I begin tearing apart the kitchen with abandon. Fortunately I have my Mum Cook Book by Beaba and Beaba Babycook Solo on hand, which contains recipes for women during pregnancy. One morning while frantically flicking through the pages I came across a recipe for fruits of the forest smoothie and it has become my new morning mania. Sucking down one of these awesome fruity smoothies gets my motor running and the best part is it’s ready in a matter of minutes. Surprisingly thick it’s almost like drinking a shake (but not as sweet) and it keeps me full until lunchtime. Anyway, rather than blathering on about how splendid this little recipe is, let me tell you how to do it. Enjoy!
